Let's talk about Protection.

What does this even mean?!

What do I need in order to do it?

Who needs to do it?

Where do we need to protect?

How do we know when do we need to do it?

And why?

Let's see if I can answer these questions.

🪬Let's talk about protection!

✝️Anyone can protect themselves with Magick. People who wear crosses or crucifixes are protecting themselves from harm.

🤞🏽If you are a human who interacts with other humans, I would say that you need protection in some way.

🔨We need to protect ourselves. If we want to add some protection to our homes, jobs & vehicles, we can do that as well.

🚫No one can tell you when the right time for you to do this is. This is a feeling YOU get. Practice with how you feel after different interactions. When you feel that 🧟"icky" feeling, pay attention to it! That is when you need to cleanse & protect.

It is also a good idea to cleanse and protect throughout the year, especially if you have a high traffic home, have chaotic energy in the home, or have a job where you may bring home energies from different people. Some folks renew their cleansing & protection on the new moon, some do it with the Sabbats, some do it whenever they get that "icky" feeling that something isn't right.

☠️Why do we need to protect ourselves? Because when we don't have our boundaries up, energies can fuck with us. If someone is physically threatening you, I want to make sure to say that the authorities need to get involved if you are in physical danger, but in addition to them you can energetically protect yourself.

🦈What does it mean to "protect" ourselves in a magickal sense? Let's talk about how 🪄 magick works to figure that out. Magick, according to Aleister Crowley, is “The art and science of causing change to occur in accordance with one’s Will.” WTF does that mean⁉️ To me it means that if I can focus my attention/intention enough in one direction, that will cause change. Whether it's an intention for me, or someone else. Wherever I focus my attention/intention, the energy will go. But remember, the Universe helps those that help themselves. If you aren't also putting in the work, the Magick is not going to work. You have to physically put in the work in this realm, & do the magick so the other realms can work with us.

It's all about the energy exchange. Have you ever been in a room with someone and they just "light up the room"? Or with someone who can bring the entire room down? That, in a way, is magick. They are focusing all of their attention on whatever one feeling they are having & pushing it out into the world.

So, if we are focusing our intention & attention hard enough into one direction, we will be causing change to occur in accordance with our Will. So when we are using the tools below & focusing, that, friends, is how we can protect ourselves with magick.

🕷️For protection there are quite a few things you could use.

You could carry black tourmaline on you or place it in a certain spot like we talked about in the cleansing post. Selenite can also be used for that as it also does absorb "yuckies".

You can also use a skull, black salt, a ward against an evil eye or a pentacle. There are so many things that you can carry on yourself or put in a spot in your home, business or car, the list is almost endless. I have different kinds of skulls, evil eyes & pentacles in the shop as well as my personal black salt for sale.

🧿You could also make a protection jar/satchel with herbs & trinkets. In the shop I have a "build your own spell jar/satchel" area where you choose which container you want to use, choose what herbs you want to use & you make it on the spot! The list of herbs I have in the shop & their properties are listed here. I get most of this information from Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Herbs that is available for purchase in the shop. You can throw in some different colors of thread to add in some color magick & even purchase a candle for some candle magick! I love love love spell jars & satchels. You can keep them in your bag, in your pocket, on a necklace, in your car, a specific spot in your home or even your job.

🫙To make a spell jar, all you need to do is:

• choose the container

• look through the herbs available, see what magickal properties they possess & match them to what I'm trying to accomplish

• I usually start from the beginning & write down each one I like & why, so I'll have a long list to start with

• Then I start chopping the items away based on which ones "feel" right & don't (to be clear there is no "logical" reason to pull certain ones away, it just depends on what my intuition is telling me)

• After my list is down to maybe 3 - 5 herbs, I'll pray over each herb asking it to do the thing I need it to as I'm putting it into the container

• Next I'll write my intention down on paper, if I can get something physical of the person, place or thing I am working on protecting I'll put that in the container as well. If I can't obtain something physical I will just write down very specific information about the person, place or thing, which is just as good

• When that's done I will add the appropriate color to it

• After that's done I may light a candle with the appropriate color & melt wax over the container to seal it. As I'm doing this I'll say my affirmation/prayer over & over until this is done

• Then I'll put the candle in a fire safe holder & watch it burn the rest of the way while keeping my attention on the affirmation/prayer

• Then the spell is complete & you place the container wherever it needs to go

🪵Palo Santo (Holy Wood) is wonderful for protection. Just (responsibly) light it on fire, put the fire out & as it is smoking follow the path you did with the sage when you cleansed! You may have to light the Palo Santo more than once to get it smoking again.

🪓Once of my favorites is charcoal & resin. I - LOVE - using charcoal and Copal to cleanse the place & go back around with Frankincense & Myrrh. I like this method because it gets really smokey and that works well, visually, for me.

A lot of people also use Sage & follow up with Palo. Charcoal & resin is used the same way, just different tools. First, open a couple of windows or a door so the shitty energy can remove itself. What you do with the charcoal is you light one side of it, once it starts sparking set it down on a fire retardant item & watch the sparks zig-zag to the other side. As they are zig-zagging to the other side, repeat your prayer or affirmation. Once the sparks have made their way over, you can add Copal on top of the charcoal. It should start smoking right away. Once the smoke dies down it is time to add more resin. Once you get the room sufficiently smoked out with the Copal, close the doors & windows & start going around the room with the Frank & Myrrh. If you are using Palo, this is the time to use that.

😼Let's move on to animal magick!

You can use a Bobcat foot in a few ways.

One of the ways is to set your intention of embodying the Bobcat. Once you have that, imagine anything that is not for your highest good that comes at you gets destroyed by its sharp claws & muscular paws.

In this vein, you can claw areas that you need protection to embody this lovely animal even more, as the bobcat scratches on trees to mark their territory. You can also urinate around your property, please don't get arrested for indecent exposure & blame it on me. Pee in a jar & pour it that way. But remember the area will smell like urine, so that one's a toss up. It will definitely keep people away, though 😆

You can use it for patience in the sense that they can wait, motionless, for their time to pounce on their prey.

Its scream can be a warning sign to other people wanting to harm you.

Bobcats are very versatile creatures as they can live in many different areas & thrive. This can help you adapt to new situations where you may have been scared before.

🦴There is also a jaw bone mirror. Mirror's are great at protection. This one you can hang wherever you need protection. Just like with the Bobcat, set your intention of embodying little fierce mammals. Once you have that, imagine anything that is not for your highest good that comes at you gets destroyed by it's sharp little teeth. The jaws are small but mighty. They will clamp down & shred the skin on whoever comes your way that isn't for your highest good.

The mirror is good for return to senders. Any ill-will that comes your way will be returned.

🐔You can also use chicken feet. Chicken feet are excellent for protection. The thought behind using them is they will scratch away whatever is coming your way that isn't for your highest good. You can also use a chicken head in the same way as well. You would use these the same way as a spell jar/satchel.

You want to get a dried foot. I, at times, have them for sale in the shop. I will pray over them as they are drying, and once they are dried I will paint them specific colors to really embrace what they are doing.

🫵🏽Remember, no one can tell you when the right time for you to do this is. This is a feeling YOU get. Practice with how you feel after different interactions. When you feel that "icky" feeling, pay attention to it! That is when you need to cleanse & protect!
